Denial hurts and goes a long way toward perpetuating mental health stigma, Michelle Monet. When you refuse to acknowledge what ails you (to yourself and to others), you’re basically shooting yourself in the foot and making an already difficult situation worse.
I’m a radical honesty advocate because it’s the only thing that allows for progress, both on an individual and societal level.
Also, I have no choice but to feel everything (I belatedly discovered there’s a name for this disposition, HSP ala Highly Sensitive Person, see the work of Elaine Aron for more info — not a fan of labels but reading about this was hugely helpful to me) so I might as well turn what many view as a curse into an asset and use it to document what’s going on.
Lastly, don’t get me started on the woo-woo self-help bullshit preying on desperate folks. I covered this here because the entire industry is mostly a sham:
Self-Help Ghouls do not Want to Help you
Marketing and profiteering will be the death of us.
Lastly, what I loved in your piece is that you aggregated several opinions. Thank you for writing it. 😊
