Many thanks for your thoughtful reply. I agree with you that we have to be able to speak our truth. In fact, I wholeheartedly believe this is paramount to being able to deal with depression and getting functional again.
As for fighting the stigma, it happens one mind, one heart at a time and it’s always, always worth it. When one person understands, they’re generally willing to share this understanding with others and become advocates themselves.
In time, I think my dad will come round but this probably won’t happen by remote. Meaning I need to go back and see him and have all the difficult conversations in person.
I’m working on getting the funds together, one piece of writing, one coffee donation at a time. It may take me a while but this is what I can do now, and, to me, this represents huge progress.
