I’m surprised at how much this resonates with me, Emily Kate, not the eating disorder itself but the people-watching part.

Due to stress and extenuating circumstances, I’m right in the middle of anorexia — as in the absence of appetite rather than anorexia nervosa, the eating disorder — and have been for quite some time.

It has changed my relationship to food, which, for a French person, is utterly heartbreaking and frustrating. I’ve even had to warn my family in advance so they don’t freak out.

Then again, I make sure I get all the nutrients I need in as digestible a format as possible. Food has become a chore rather than a pleasure, so your piece was a timely reminder that it needn’t be that way.

However, our broken brains have a way of throwing spanners in the works.

Hope you manage to ride out this relapse and come through the other side soon. The Holiday Season is hugely triggering for many of us, alas. xoxo
