Thank you for the reminder, Elle Beau, and for making me feel sane.

Not a day goes by that I don’t harp on about this, perhaps because leaving the US to return to Europe has made me realize why I lost five years of my life in America.

It is, as you call it, the “culture”. If I use quotes and italics, it’s because culture means something quite different to me from this monsterhood of greed and profit where people are encouraged to be as grabby as possible…

What puzzles me in America however is that the grabbiest folks are also the loneliest and yet they’re quite unable to connect the two, preferring instead to wallow in self-pity.

Apologies if you already know of one another, but Jonathan Greene and Michael K. Spencer, Elle’s piece is most definitely a read for you. :-)
