All your comments echo exactly what I’ve understood since moving to the U.S. and this will never sit right with me. Ever. I try and believe that change is possible but America scares me on the daily, and immigration has sadly come to feel like an organ transplant that didn’t take.

I’ve always been a proud adopted Washingtonian but I became a mortified American. I went through naturalization in December 2016 and watching President Obama’s video message during the ceremony just broke me.

But it’ll always be a point of personal pride that I became a citizen under his administration. I don’t think I’d have bothered otherwise.
