Thanks for your response, Satti. You make a good point: Trump has uncovered the ailment, so hopefully now we can heal.

I’m not familiar with Donahue as I wasn’t in the U.S. in 2003. What’s more, I no longer have a TV. My household cut the cord some four years ago. We have high speed fiber optic internet (because we live in the boondocks and it’s partly funded by the county) and engage with news on our terms rather than let them happen to us.

The reason for this is along the lines of what you write. I must confess to not being a fan of American mainstream media because they invariably place profit before public service. Also, there is a glaring lack of strong public media outlets in the U.S., unlike in Canada or Britain. What public media there is is always panhandling in order to survive (endless membership drives and underwriter announcements) and lacks the gumption to call Trump lies lies, insisting on false equivalence, which help nobody.

As a result, I tend to get my news from foreign outlets with a robust U.S. presence because I know they have no vested interest in being less than honest about Trump.
