Back when we still lived in the city, it wasn’t easy to find an apartment that accepted cats. And of course there were additional costs, like an extra non-refundable deposit and — if my memory serves me right — pet rent.

As an aside, many people still don’t understand the crucial role a pet plays in keeping homeless folks alive. When society has all but given up on them, at least they have a faithful companion who loves them unconditionally.

Lastly, you can tell a lot about a person by what they think about pets and how they deal with them — some points of view and attitudes are quite revelatory.
