But America isn’t Britain so might one posit that Brits actually immigrated to a continent that already belonged to other people and, um, appropriated it, Jacob Grandstaff?

Since language matters, colonization is the actual word here, isn’t it?

And once the Brits were settled, other folks from around the world came along either seeking shelter from persecution or improved economic circumstances.

Or at least that’s my (arguably limited) understanding of US history in a nutshell. Then again, I’m not a historian.
