You and Tom Gregg hold similarly Orwellian views, Allan, but I’m willing to suspend disbelief until November. Tech is finally doing its part so there’s every hope the more scrupulous side of media might make an effort too.
My main concern is people — i.e. the media public — and more specifically users on platforms like this one playing at journalism by copy pasting tweets into screeds and adding to the disinfo fatberg of brain-clogging garbage while lining their pockets with the proceeds of outrage.
Opinion is not fact.
Due diligence is never optional.
And no amount of formatting is ever going to make up for the absence of substance, message, or argument. Those who think journalism is a people-pleasing business should go into social media marketing instead.
