I’m never not surprised at the sheer mediocrity and uniformity that passes for culture, the absence of curiosity about the world beyond US borders, and the near-fanatical devotion to money (and to the bitch goddess television).
Everyone wants to be rich and famous; greed is a virtue; humans are commodities.
To me, this isn’t life but some kind of weird, shallow performance that completely dehumanizes people, as evidenced by the anti-intellectual tenor of US politics, among other things.
